Use this chart to find comparable weights between different types of paper. The "Basis Weight" of any paper is generally a reference to the weight of the paper when measured in lots of 500 sheets (one ream) of parent size stock. The "parent size" paper is the full measurement of a sheet of paper before it is cut down to more useable sizes, like letter-size or ledger-size.
Example: To determine what weight text sheet is similar to a 28 lb. bond, first locate 28 lb. bond in the top section on the fifth line of the chart. Move across the line to the "book" column. You will see that 28 lb. bond would be similar in weight to standard 70 lb. book.
